Do you struggle with applying everyday makeup? Is it too much fuss and you’d rather not be bothered? Do you wish you had some simple makeup tips for an everyday makeup look? What if I told you that you can apply your makeup quickly AND it can look good? It is totally possible, and I’ll tell you how! First, you must start with a good skin care regimen. This post lists some of my favorite skin care products, and I wear most of them year round. Second, you need to have a couple of makeup tools and products in your arsenal. And third, follow my simple steps below for an easy everyday makeup routine. These steps will give you a good foundation that you can build upon if you ever want to change your look. Let’s dive into everyday makeup so you can be on your way to looking fabulous in no time!
What is everyday makeup?
Everyday makeup is what you can wear comfortably to work, your kids’ school functions, your classes, church, and happy hour. It’s not overly dramatic, highlights your features, and makes you look fabulous. It’s best when your everyday makeup routine is simple. You should be able to replicate it every day without a lot of fuss or time commitment. Everyday makeup is also versatile, which means you can easily add more to it if you want a more dramatic look for a special occasion.
What is needed for an everyday makeup look?
#1: Get the Right Tools
You need to start with the right tools because they will make your makeup application a cinch. Using a foundation brush enables even application and you’ll use less product. A blush brush gives you the ability to apply brush widely along the apples of the cheeks and the cheekbones. Here are my favorites: Foundation Brush and Angled Blush Brush.
#2: Start with a Foundation or a Tinted Moisturizer
Why is this important? This is your base. It covers up imperfections, smooths your skin tone, and allows your makeup to adhere (i.e., stick/bond) to something. If you can find one that has a sunscreen you’ve really hit the jackpot! My favorite product is the Dew Skin Tinted Moisturizer, which is lightweight and perfect for summer. When I need heavier coverage, I use the Skin Twin Featherweight Foundation.
#3: Get Your Cover-Up
We all have imperfections, or is it just me? You may have sunspots, freckles, acne scars, under-the-eye circles, etc. If you are compelled to cover them, a good concealer will be your best friend. You just need to get one that matches your skin tone. My favorite is the Skin Skin Twin Creamy Concealer. The application is super easy, and it blends in well with my tinted moisturizer.
#4: Accentuate Those Brows
Adding definition to your brows can make a tremendous difference because it makes your face look more awake. Also, your brows will look thicker and more polished, but this step can be intimidating if you don’t have the right product. Enter the Brilliant Brow Gel. You can’t get more simple than this! Use the gel to fill in gaps–that’s it!
#5: Pump Up the Lashes
Everyone wants bold lashes these days, and a good mascara can help you get there. You can choose a volumizing or lengthening formula. To be honest, I have used both (at the same time) and have liked the results. Look for one that is easy to apply and doesn’t clump/flake/smudge. My favorite is this Think Big All-in-One Mascara.
#6: Add Some Color
Adding blush to your cheeks helps your skin look radiant because you can create a natural flushed look. This step can be more complicated if you get into contouring and bronzing. If you are a newbie to makeup, I suggest starting out with something simple. Choose a single color or a duo set which gives you options as you get more comfortable with makeup application. My favorite is this Cheeky Clean Cream Blush.
#7: Finish with Lips
This may be the easiest step because all you need is a fabulous lip gloss. Just swipe it across your lips, and you’re good to go. I suggest starting with one that is a neutral shade, then adding to your collection if you want more variety. I like a lip gloss that is moisturizing, long-lasting and has a nice shine. My pick: The Beyond Gloss in Dahlia.
How long does it take to apply everyday makeup?
The best everyday makeup routine is quick, simple, and keeps you looking fabulous. You’ll want a routine that you can use on those days when you’re pressed for time. The routine that I’ve outlined above can be done in 5 minutes flat. Don’t believe me? Well, I tested it myself when I shot the video below. I sped up the video (because who wants to watch me apply makeup for 5 minutes, right?), but at the normal speed, it took me 4:52 to do my makeup. So, if I can do it you can too! By the way, please ignore my son as he comes in/out of this video. He loves the camera!
