Itโs finally starting to feel like winter here! Maybe Iโll get to wear some of my sweaters, scarves, and coats this year? Who knows?!!! In Houston, the temperatures can swing so dramatically. Itโs crazy! One thing that doesnโt change is how my skin responds to cold temperatures. For that reason, I’m always on the lookout for the best moisturizer for dry skin. When the temperatures drop, my skin starts to dry out big time.ย
If you can relate to my dry skin woes, let me tell you what I look for when I’m seeking the best moisturizer for dry skin.
Face Oil
We can’t talk about a dry skincare regimen without discussing face oil. Now I know some of you just said, โWhoa, no way. I canโt add oil to my skin. Thatโs crazy.โ Hereโs what you should look for: one that is plant-based, absorbent into your skin instead of sitting on your skin (not cute); formulated without synthetic or mineral oils; and packed with beneficial ingredients such as vitamin C and avocado oil. My favorite is the All Bright Brightening Facial Oil because I use it alone, especially before I teach my classes or I can use it underneath my favorite moisturizer (mine is the Countertime Supreme Cream).ย A little goes a long way, too. Just use 2โ3 drops on your face and thatโs it! Plus, I can use it to moisturize dry cuticlesโanother common problem since I wash my hand a lot. ย
Antioxidant Serum
Experts agree that you do need some type of serum to help your skin combat free radicals. Those little buggers can lead to sunspots, the breakdown of collagen, and premature fine lines. No thank you! That’s why an antioxidant serum is hugely beneficial. This one is my favorite product eveeerrrr!ย Why is it an amazing product? Well, it evens out my skin tone and makes my skin look brighter (thank you vitamin C)! It also quickly reduced the appearance of dark spots and made my skin look firmer. I instantly became a fan! Itโs so easy to apply. I layer it under my face oil or favorite moisturizer, then let it do its magic!
One more tip: I love to use this serum in tandem with the Overnight Resurfacing Peel at night (i.e., during the day I’ll use the vitamin C serum, and at night I’ll use the resurfacing peel). This regimen has literally transformed my skin!
Charcoal Mask
As a sweat enthusiast, I have to take special care of my skin. Charcoal has been my best friend since my first pregnancy when I had to swap out most of my skincare products to protect my daughterโs health. Charcoal draws out the impurities in the pores. You can use it year-round, so don’t shy away from a winter face mask! My favorite is the Counter + Charcoal Face Mask. Trust me, a charcoal mask is like icing on the cake. Itโs perfect to use on the entire face or to spot treat acne. My blemishes are gone in the morning!
Lip Conditioner
Are your lips dry and cracked too? This could be a hint that you’re a little dehydrated, so check out my post about drinking more water.ย In addition, try switching to a lip conditioner like this one. I’ve included it as a great moisturizer for dry skin since it’s an essential part of my dry skincare regimen. I love to use it at night because my lips are hydrated and moisturized when I wake up in the morning. But I can use it throughout the day and I can apply it underneath my favorite lipstick or lip gloss. With a hint of peppermint, thereโs a slight tingle as it goes on the lips. Plus, a little goes a long way.ย
Hand Cream
In this day and age, we are all washing our hands more often, right? On top of that I’ve been cooking a ton and my hands are perpetually dry because I hand wash my pots and pans. If you add cold weather to the equation, my dry hands just get worse. My solution is this balm! It hydrates and softens my skin because of this mix of ingredients: shea butter, jojoba oil, and organic sunflower oil. Try it because itโs a winner!
Sunscreen
I can’t have a list of moisturizers without including sunscreen. It’s like a no-brainer because you should use your sunscreen even during the winter months when it’s cold, cloudy, and dreary. Here’s why: the sun is super sneaky. It can peak through clouds and cause damage to your skin on a cloudy day. Or, it can reflect it’s harmful rays off of snow on sunny days. Either way, you’ve gotta stay protected with some type of sunscreen always. So here’s my pick: Countersun Daily Sheer Defense for Face. It contains antioxidants to protect from pollution, has an SPF of 25, and provides protection from UVA, UVB, and HEV blue light rays. Plus, there’s not a chalky white cast and I can use it alone or underneath another moisturizer. It’s literally amazing!
Besides being some of my skincare favorites, all of these products have two things in common. You can trust they will perform beautifully (as Iโve described above), AND you can be confident that they are free of harmful chemicals. By harmful, Iโm referring to the chemicals linked to cancer, developmental toxicity, and hormone disruption. Who wants any of that, right? Not me. Iโve got enough to worry about, and I donโt want to be concerned about what I put on my skin!
So if you’ve been looking for the best moisturizer for dry skin, I’ve given you six awesome options! Stay safe and keep your skin hydrated my friend! Have a good one!
