We are just days away from the start of the 7-Day Sugar Detox. YAYYY! I’ve started preparing for the sugar detox because I truly believe that when you prepare, you set yourself up for success. So, today I’m going to share what I’m doing right now and how I’m preparing for the sugar detox. My hope is that this will be helpful and will motivate you to prepare in advance too!
Deciding What to Cut
My process will begin with an honest assessment of what I’ve been eating for meals and snacks. Some added sugars are obvious (e.g., processed snacks, candy, and desserts) and I know they will go on my list of foods to cut. Other foods will require some research. For instance, I regularly drink coconut water after my workouts. Does it contain added sugar? I found out that my favorite brand does not contain added sugar. Whew–my coconut water is safe! But my coffee creamer, yogurt, and favorite dried fruit do contain added sugars. So…bye-bye! Those items are now on my list of foods to cut. After I complete the list of foods to cut, I’ll move on to creating my meals for the week.
Planning My Meals
The easiest way for me to plan meals is to do it meal by meal. In other words, I plan breakfast for the week, move on to mid-morning snacks for the week, then lunches, etc. After the week is planned, I look at each day to see if it makes sense. This process may work for you or it might not. In addition, my family doesn’t mind eating leftovers (as long as the meal is tasty 😉) so I’ll take full advantage of that when planning out the meals. Also, I’ll try to minimize my time in the kitchen on my busiest days. As an example, I plan to eat overnight oats and leftovers on my busiest days.
Starting Early
I think it is so important to get your mind ready for a sugar detox before it begins. What does that mean specifically? Right now, I’m more conscious of what I’m eating and I’m slowly weaning myself off of the foods that I know I’ll cut during the detox. I don’t want this to be a drastic shock to my psyche, so starting early is beneficial for me. Likewise, I’m not planning to “get my fill” of excluded foods before the detox because I don’t want to deal with the consequences. 🙄 And….there’s some candy in my pantry so I’ll likely throw it out. I know that I have the willpower to stay away from it during the detox, but my husband doesn’t. So, keeping it in the pantry is not an option!
Last, I’ll use my meal plan to create a grocery list. I intend to go to the store on Saturday. By doing so, I can prep my food in advance and have everything ready to go by Monday.

You are very welcome, Trena! I’m so excited that you’re doing the detox. And, yes, you can win!

I missed the detox the week of4/2
Can i start 4/9? Thanks Glenda
Wendy says
Hi Glenda! Yes, you can. I’ll send you a link to the Sugar Detox FB group, and you can join the group. We’ll poll the participants tomorrow (4/6) to see if there are people who would like to extend the detox (and you can do it with them). If nobody wants to extend it, you’ll still have access to the Food Planner and other resources and you can do the detox by yourself.
