Doing new things can be exhilarating, can get you out of a rut, and can push you out of your comfort zone. It can lead to tremendous personal growth as you learn from your new experiences. But it’s also scary to do something new because there can be a fear of failure and/or rejection. Having confidence in yourself and your abilities can make all the difference! Do you find yourself struggling to have confidence as you embark upon new tasks, jobs, or challenges this year? If you do, I have 5 ways that you can have confidence, or at least fake like you do! Read on for more…
You Are Who/Where You are Supposed To Be
Self-doubt can sink in if you question who you are, or if you question if you are supposed to be where you are in your life. I believe there are no coincidences in life. Every experience molds us into the person we are meant to be. God has a special plan at work in your life, so that should give you confidence that you are who and where you are supposed to be at this very moment.
Celebrate Your Positives
We all have special gifts. These are the things that come easily to us and make us stand out from others. If you don’t know what your gifts are, take time to find out what they are…there are several resources available for that. I’ve used the StrengthsFinder program but there are others. Once you know what your gifts are, celebrate them! They are God-given and they are what make you uniquely you. You should have confidence instantly!
Stop Viewing Shortcomings as Negatives
Your shortcomings are the things that don’t come easily to you. We all have them but don’t beat yourself up about them. Change your mindset and see shortcomings as areas of development. The things that you aren’t so good at doing can be improved with time and effort. You’ll find yourself feeling more confident as you develop in these areas.
Act Like the Future Version of Yourself (i.e., Fake It Till You Make It)
Once you are honest about your areas of development, you can take strides to grow stronger in those areas. Until you get to where you want to be, act as if you’ve already mastered it. Then keep doing it. The more you do it, the more you will become it! For example, if you want to be a better speaker, regularly accept opportunities to speak in public. The more you do it, the more comfortable you will be every time you have to speak publicly.
Buy a New Lipstick, Workout Outfit, etc.
As superficial as it sounds, this works for many people (including me!). When I finished my cycle instructor training, I bought new leggings. They were my “congratulations you did it” leggings, but they were also my confidence boosting leggings. I was so excited to have them, and they made me feel like I could conquer any obstacle or fear. Your thing may not be leggings, but it may be a pair of new shoes, a dress, or a new lipstick. Find your confidence boosting thing, and use it to have the confidence you deserve.
Are you holding yourself back from taking on new challenges and tasks this year? Maybe you need to boost your confidence! Be honest with yourself regarding your confidence level. If you need to boost it up, use my 5 tips listed above. You owe it to yourself to be the best version of you!
